The team at Scotmas are very sorry to announce the passing of our founder and former Chairman, Mr Derek Cameron following a short illness. He was 86.
A geneticist by training, Derek built his early career in the food and agriculture industry, living and working across Africa, Europe and Canada.
Working in West Africa, he came to understand the potential for good water hygiene practices to have a dramatic effect on animal health and productivity.
Returning to Scotland in the 1980s, he set about building a business to capitalise on that knowledge, and pioneered the application of Chlorine Dioxide (ClO2) technology for water and food hygiene. Through his hard work and pioneering spirit – solving problems that many people did not know that they had – he lay the foundations for the success of todays Scotmas Group.
Derek was passionate about making business a force for good in the community, wherever in the world he worked. One of his greatest pleasures in business and in life was to give others opportunities to learn, grow and develop – much as his early mentors had done for him.
Despite his failing health in recent months, we could all see his excitement and pride for the growth of Scotmas still to come and the opportunities that would provide for everyone associated with the company. Despite our very profound sense of loss, we’re immensely proud to carry forward his legacy.
